SVQ Children's Care Learning and Development Level 3
North Edinbugh Childcare Training Services have been delivering childcare qualifications on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council through Workforce Development Funding for many years now to support childcare staff to attain the qualifications required to meet the registration requirements of the SSSC. For the foreseeable future available Workforce Development Funding has been prioritised to meet the registration needs of Childcare Managers only. This means therefore that funding to support childcare staff requiring to undertake qualifications to meet the registration requirement of the SSSC at Practitioner level is now extremely limited.
In response to this situation, North Edinburgh Childcare Training Services are now offering the opportunity for childcare staff to self fund their way through the SVQ Level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development.
The SVQ Level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development (CCLD) is the qualification required to enable childcare workers to register with the Scottish Social Services Council at Practitioner level. The qualification incorporates the delivery of 5 mandatory SVQ units and 4 optional SVQ units chosen to suit the candidate’s job role.
The duration of the course is approximately 12 -14 months and successful applicants are able to start on the SVQ programme at anytime. Candidates will receive:
- A comprehensive induction to the award and the CCLD standards
- Regular assessment planning and feedback meetings with their SVQ Assessor
- Approximately 7 direct observations undertaken within their work setting
- Ongoing support and regular contact with their SVQ Assessor via telephone / email
- A CD Rom containing relevant underpinning knowledge information
- Regular open tutorial support sessions where Assessors are available to support candidates in relation to gathering evidence for their award
Entry requirements
Candidates must:
- Possess a Level 2 qualification in childcare or have a minimum of 12 months experience working in a childcare setting
- be employed as a practitioner or be able to work in a practitioner role as defined by the SSSC
- have the ability to demonstrate appropriate practice and knowledge to meet the requirements of the CCLD standards
Cost
The cost of the course is £1,750. Candidates may be eligible to access up to £500 towards the cost of their learning by opening a learner account with ILA Scotland. ILA Scotland is a Scottish Government scheme that helps people to pay for learning they can do at a time, place, pace and in a way that suits them. It’s for people who are 16 or over, living in Scotland and have an income of £22,000 a year or less or who are on benefits (please ask us for details about how to apply).
Candidates are able to spread the cost of their course across a 14 month period and we would encourage applicants to discuss costs with their employer in that they may be able to contribute towards the cost of training.
How to apply and the selection process
Applicants should contact Kim Weir on 0131-311-6931 to request an application pack and return by email to kim.weir@northedinburghchildcare.co.uk or by post to Kim Weir, North Edinburgh Childcare, 18b Ferry Road Avenue, EH4 4BL (ensuring that sufficient postage is paid to ensure its delivery). The application pack contains a Training Needs Analysis which must also be completed enabling us to assess applicants’ current level of knowledge and experience. Applicants who meet the entry requirements and successfully progress through the application stage will then be invited for interview.
