Current Training

SVQ Children's Care Learning and Development Level 3

North Edinburgh Childcare Training Services are currently delivering the SVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care Learning and Development.

This new qualification which replaces the former SVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education is required by all Childcare Practitioners to enable them to register with the Scottish Social Services Council in late 2006 / 2007.  There are 9 units within this award.

Duration and hours of attendance: The SVQ Level 3 in Children’s Care Learning and Development will be delivered over an 18 month period and will involve candidates attending a weekly tutorial for approximately 3 hours (which is most likely to be held in the evening to enable people to attend).  The course will involve written work and self study out with tutorial time as well as working with an individual SVQ Assessor who will observe and assess candidates occupational skills within their own work setting.  The qualification is suitable for people working with children in a range of childcare settings including Playgroups, Early Years / Pre-School and Playwork settings.

Eligibility: People need to be employed in a childcare setting and living in the Edinburgh area (the course is NOT specific to North Edinburgh).

The qualification is being provided free to candidates through funding received from the Early Years and Childcare Team (formerly the Edinburgh Childcare Partnership).

The Edinburgh Childcare Academy Project

Our 9th Childcare Academy course has just begun.

To date we have successfully trained and moved a total of 71 unemployed people into employment within the Childcare field, to be part of this exciting opportunity contact us now.

As students move into placements they will begin to work towards gaining their Children's Care Learning and Development Award which will enable them to register as support workers with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).  The content of the underpinning knowledge topics are as follows:
