Victoria Quay

This work place nursery provides 37 full time equivalent childcare places for children whose parents are employees of the Scottish Government.  The nursery is located within the Scottish Government’s office block and provides 3 well equipped play rooms as well as an enclosed outdoor play area.  The playrooms, which have recently been named by our children, are designed to meet the needs of children in the following age groups:

Work practice in the Tadpoles and Starfish playrooms is based on the Scottish Government’s guidance document - Pre-birth to Three: Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families. Our everyday planning and processes demonstrate our understanding that care and learning are not two separate things for young children.  We work in partnership with parents to ensure that we take full account of each individual child’s needs.

Staff in our Sea-horses playroom deliver pre-school education for 3-5 year olds in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council.  All learning opportunities are based on the Curriculum for Excellence and are designed to promote the development of children’s capacities as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

An extensive range of play opportunities are on offer every day to provide stimulation and enjoyment for
all of the children in the nursery.  The playroom environments and activity programmes are carefully planned by our well-trained and qualified staff team to ensure that children are encouraged to learn and develop at their own pace.  We have access to a large aerobics studio within the building where there is plenty of space for children to enjoy physical and extra curricular activities such as yoga sessions and dance classes. All children have access to our enclosed garden area where they can play safely in the fresh air and try their hand at gardening.

Meals and snacks provide an opportunity for the promotion of healthy eating through tasty, nutritious meals.  Parents of children in the Starfish and Seahorses playrooms may provide their child/ren with a packed lunch from home or purchase a 2 course meal from the organization.  The healthy, nutritious snacks that are served in the morning and afternoon are often themed to reflect the activities that are going on within the playrooms.  This makes them fun and encourages the children to try out new tastes.

The nursery is registered with the Care Inspectorate who carry out regular inspections on all aspects of the care provided.  All staff members are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council at according to the responsibilities of their posts.

The nursery is open for 50 weeks of the year and only closes on public holidays.

We understand that families may have differing requirements and therefore offer the following range of options to meet their specific needs.  Parents are able to choose the number etc.

Parents are able to choose the number of sessions they require from a minimum of 2 sessions per week up to full-time care.  Wrap around care is also available, when booked in advance and numbers permitting, between the hours of 12.00pm-1.00 pm or 1.00 -2.00pm to provide even more flexibility for parents using morning or afternoon sessions.
