Training Services

North Edinburgh Childcare Training Services is quickly becoming recognised as an innovative provider of a range of high quality training in Childcare.  Provision includes the delivery of Scottish Vocational Qualifications at level 2 and level 3 in Children and Young People Award, as well as a range of internally certificated short courses in various childcare related topics.

Services are mainly delivered from our training suite based within North Edinburgh Childcare. The suite comfortably accommodates 30+ people, is completely accessible to people using wheelchairs and has ample car parking facilities.

We have the full range of training equipment including an excellent library resource and self-study area with access to IT equipment and relevant software.

CHILDCARE ACADEMY

To date we have successfully trained and moved over 340 unemployed people into employment within the Childcare field, to be part of this exciting opportunity contact us now.

If you are interested in joining our next Childcare Academy course we would like to hear from you.  To qualify you need to be enthusiastic about working with children, unemployed, aged 16+ and able to obtain a satisfactory PVG Scheme Record, Medical Questionnaire and two good references.

The Childcare Academy Programme will equip students with the necessary knowledge, awareness and skills to render them 'ready for employment' within a childcare environment. The programme will introduce students to the basic skills required within the work place, the values that underpin childcare practice and the childcare workers role.

 

Students will enter work placements in a range of childcare settings throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas (if required) and will undertake 2 accredited units from thr SVQ Level 2 Children and Young People Award with a range of support provided. Students will be required to attend underpinning knowledge training and job search activities at the Childcare Academy.

If you are an employer in any kind of childcare setting who would like to offer a placement to a Childcare Academy student then we would like to hear from you.  The placement can be full or part time and need only be for 4 days a week.  The students, who vary in age, will need a mentor to help them settle into their setting and we will support mentors to do this through our mentor training and ongoing contact.  To find out more please contact Fiona Williamson on 0131 311 6928 or e-mail fiona.williamson@northedinburghchildcare.co.uk

SVQ Children and Young People Award Level 3

North Edinbugh Childcare Training Services have been delivering childcare qualifications on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council through Workforce Development Funding for many years now to support childcare staff to attain the qualifications required to meet the registration requirements of the SSSC. For the foreseeable future available Workforce Development Funding has been prioritised to meet the registration needs of Childcare Managers only. This means therefore that funding to support childcare staff requiring to undertake qualifications to meet the registration requirement of the SSSC at Practitioner level is now extremely limited.

 

In response to this situation, North Edinburgh Childcare Training Services are now offering the opportunity for childcare staff to self fund their way through the SVQ Level 3 Children and Young People Award.

The SVQ Level 3 Children and Young People Award is the qualification required to enable childcare workers to register with the Scottish Social Services Council at Practitioner level. The qualification incorporates the delivery of 4 mandatory SVQ units and 4 optional SVQ units chosen to suit the candidate’s job role.

 

The duration of the course is approximately 12 months and successful applicants are able to start on the SVQ programme at anytime. Candidates will receive:

The cost of the course is £1,750. If eligible, candidates can apply for a Part Time Fee Grant of up to £867 dependent on until choice and job role, and can choose to spread the outstanding balance of the total cost of their course across a 12 month period. Part Time Fee Grant applications can be downloaded from the SAAS website at www.saas.gov.uk. We would also encourage candidates to discuss the costs with their employer in that they may be able to contribute.

Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs) are for people who are 16 or over and living in Scotland and are for individuals who will benefit most form this support. You can apply for an ILA if you do not have a drgree or above, are not undertaking any secondary, further or higher education, training through the Employability Fund or Modern Apprenticeship, or participating on the Community Jobs Scotland programme. You must also have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on benefits to be eligible to get up to £200 towards the costs of learning or training. Candidates are able to spread the cost of their course across a period of up to 16 months and we would encourage applicants to duscuss costs with their employer in that they may be able to contribute towards the cost of training.
